Posted: Monday, 20 October 2014

Parents who have aspirations to coach kid’s cricket but don’t know where to start – Bay of Plenty Cricket has the answer, with a short series of coaching junior cricket courses scheduled for Rotorua and the Western Bay in the coming weeks.

“We have identified, that there are plenty of parents and potential junior coaches out there, but they need the confidence to coach by way of some tuition”. “Bay of Plenty Cricket has put in place a skills and drills lesson and three sequential introductions to junior cricket coaching courses” said BOPCA Cricket Development Manager Tai Bridgman-Raison.

Western Bay of Plenty, will run a Skills and Drills session, on Monday 3rd November 2014, where 10 easy to set up drills and activities, will keep junior training sessions fresh and fun while continuing to develop junior player skills.

The Foundation Junior Coaching course, is designed for parents, teachers and volunteers who coach or want to coach 5 to 10 year old school or club players. In the 90 minute course, aspiring junior coaches will be provided with an understanding of basic coaching skills and learn skills and drills to take back to their teams.

Year 9 to 13 coaches will want to attend the Development Coaching Course (Stage One). The focus is on furthering the fundamental skills of “how to coach” including planning, the principles of biomechanics and an understanding of effective team coaching.

The Development Stage Two is a more in-depth course with a closer study of the game. It is expected that participants would have completed a Foundation and Development Stage One course and will be run on demand.

The best part of the Junior Cricket Coaching Courses is that they are free. To sign up is as simple as calling Bay of Plenty Cricket 07 575 9120 or ring Tai on 027 861 7314.
