Mitch McCann, was presented with the Bay of Plenty Cricket 2014/15 Player of the Year Award, at the BOPCA Prizegiving that was held at the Lonestar Restaurant in Tauranga on Wednesday (1 April 2015) evening.
The Bay of Plenty Senior Men’s team all rounder performed with distinction throughout the season. Mitch posted 347 runs during the Fergus Hickey Rosebowl season, at an average of 43, with a highest score of 65. McCann also bowled great line and length throughout the season taking 14 wickets and fielded like a demon in his nine appearances in the Bay of Plenty uniform.
Black Cap batting star Kane Williamson was awarded the Bay of Plenty First Class Player of the Year trophy. Who can forget his career best score 242 not out against Sri Lanka, in the world record partnership with BJ Watling. Kane blasted 1068 test runs at an incredible average of 82, which included four centuries, while he added nearly one thousand runs in ODI’s.
For the second year in a row, the Bay of Plenty Women’s Player of the Year trophy was presented to Kate Anderson. Kate scored 218 runs which testified to her power hitting of the ball and she was just as dynamic in the field. Kate was rewarded for her consistency at the batting crease and in the field with selection for the Northern Spirit.
Three senior men’s trophies recognize the achievements of three former high profile Bay of Plenty players. The Mike Wright batting prize was awarded to Bharat Popli who blasted 416 runs during the Bay of Plenty Fergus Hickey Rosebowl campaign. Donavan Deeble, who made his Bay of Plenty debut against Northland in November, won the Derek Beard bowling trophy with 18 wickets with Brodie Gilroy being presented with the Brendon Bracewell most promising player award
Kate Anderson was awarded the BOPCA Women’s batting prize with Piki Tai and Nensi Patel sharing the bowling honours. The Mike Nitz most promising women’s player was presented to Nensi Patel, who shows amazing maturity for a youngster who is in Year Eight at Tauranga Intermediate School.
The Bay of Plenty Development batting honours went to Sean Davey, with Mount Maunganui Club stalwart Nick Smith winning the bowling award. Otumoetai Cadets batsmen Ben Christensen earned the Baywide Premier MVP award, scoring the most runs in the three Baywide competitions.
