BAY OF PLENTY TO PLAY WAIKATO VALLEY ON SUNDAY

While Bay of Plenty has selected a strong line-up to meet Waikato Valley with all their Northern Knights available – they won’t be taking the challenge from Waikato Valley lightly, after the Valley tipped over Counties Manukau two weeks ago.

The Fergus Hickey one-day match, will be played at one of the most picturesque cricket grounds in the upper North Island at the Cambridge Square, on Sunday (1 February 2015).

Waikato Valley batted first against Counties and posted 292/8, before the game went down to the wire, with Waikato Valley bowling their opponents out just seven runs short of victory.

Northern Knight’s Jono Boult, who will play his 61st game in the Blue and Gold uniform in Cambridge, will move into outright fourth on the all time list of Bay of Plenty appearances behind Derek Beard, Mike Wright and Grant Manners. Boult has posted 1782 runs and taken 103 wickets since he made his Bay debut over a decade ago.

Bay wicketkeeper Tim Clarke warmed up for Sundays Fergus Hickey encounter, when he blasted 125 runs for Mount Maunganui in Baywide cricket last weekend. Another to blast the ball to the boundary in recent Williams Cup cricket, was Knights batsman Joe Carter, making a rare appearance for Cadets. Carter smashed an unbeaten 116 runs came from just 53 balls, with eight sixes and a further nine 4’s over the boundary ropes.

Knights strike bowler Tony Goodin, who was awarded his baggy blue cap for fifty games for Bay of Plenty in his last Bay outing – has moved into fourth place on the all time wickets list with 125 bowling scalps. He recently overtook Graeme Aldridge (123 wickets) and sits just two wickets behind one of the Bay all time great bowlers in Hira Unka (127)
