BAY OF PLENTY WOMEN TO START THEIR ND CAMPAIGN

Posted: Friday, 31 October 2014

The Bay of Plenty Women’s representative Cricket team have a busy start to their ND campaign, with the annual ND Women’s T20 field day being held at Blake Park, Mount Maunganui, over the weekend (1/2 November 2014)

While the four other provincial teams have an early start on Saturday morning, the Bay representatives will sit on the sideline, courtesy of drawing the first game bye. They will meet the combined Northland/Counties Manukau team on Saturday afternoon, before back to back games against Hamilton and Waikato Valley on Sunday.

Jacinta Coleman, who has played for the Northern Spirit and ND Women’s Second XI, will captain the Bay of Plenty side during the weekends T20 provincial series. Another team selection with plenty of experience, is Kate Anderson who won last season’s Bay of Plenty Women’s Player of the Year award at the BOPCA annual prize giving.

Lisa Moore, transferred to Mount Maunganui early this year and played a couple of late season games in the Bay colours and is a quality wicket keeper and batswoman. Lisa has previously played for the Canterbury Magicians and will give the Bay side plenty of options at the top and middle of the batting order.

Rebecca Yee, who relocated from Auckland earlier in the year, brings a superlative coaching background to her new representative team. Rebecca has coached three Auckland age groups sides to success and has an extensive knowledge of the game.

Two promising youngsters have earned promotion to the Bay Senior Women’s side. Brianna Perry is a Year 9 student at Tauranga Girls College and is a member of the ND Junior HP program. Greer Hill, who will make her Bay debut on the weekend, plays weekend cricket for the WBOP Combined Schoolgirls team in the Western Bay Secondary School Div 2 competition.
