Posted: Friday, 15 August 2014

New Zealand Cricket today released the first of three domestic competition schedules, which includes a first for Mount Maunganui's Bay Oval.

The SKYCITY Northern Knights will play Canterbury there for their first Plunket Shield match at the Bay Oval. General Manager of Bay of Plenty Cricket Trust Kelvin Jones said "we are delighted that this milestone will make the Bay Oval a true first class venue. It's another important step in our development and we are grateful that Northern Districts and New Zealand Cricket continue to recognise the potential of our ground."

Northern Districts Cricket CEO Peter Roach said that New Zealand Cricket have rewarded the hard work that has gone into the upgrade of Bay Oval and the confirmation of the Plunket Shield match there was thoroughly deserved. "It's fantastic for Bay of Plenty Cricket to join Northland Cricket this year as hosts of the Knights Plunket Shield home games and we look forward to working with both District Associations to deliver these very important matches."

The SKYCITY Northern Knights Plunket Shield campaign begins on 23 October with a home game against the Auckland Aces at Cobham Oval.
