BAY PLAYERS LIKELY TO SHINE IN FORD TROPHY GAMES

Posted: Monday, 22 December 2014

Bay of Plenty cricket fans are not only counting down the days to Christmas, but are also ticking of their calendar to the three Ford Trophy matches to be played at the Bay Oval, in January 2015.

The Ford Trophy is the New Zealand Cricket Limited Over (50 over’s per team) prize that dates back to the 1971-72 season.

There will be plenty of local interest in the Northern Knights three games in the Western Bay of Plenty, with a good number of Bay of Plenty players likely to appear in the three Ford Trophy games.

While the Bay of Plenty Black Caps of Kane Williamson, Trent Boult and Corey Anderson, won’t be available for ND due to Black Cap duty, up to half of dozen Bay players could wear the Knights uniform at the Bay Oval games.

Northern Knights captain Daniel Flynn is a product of the Tauranga Boys College and Bay of Plenty Cricket pathway and few players in the New Zealand first class game, have the knowledge and experience of the top order master blaster.

Graeme Aldridge is another long on experience and first made his debut for the Northern Knights back in the 1998/99 season. Since his ND debut he has also found time to make 45 appearances in the Bay of Plenty uniform. The fast-medium bowler is a more than useful lower order batsman.

Joe Carter burst into the Northern Knights last season and went on to set a new record for the most first class runs in a debut season, blasting 674 with a top score of 95 in the 2013/14 Plunket Shield. Just a couple of weeks ago he compiled his first Northern Knights century smashing 125 against Otago.

Former Bay of Plenty captain Jono Boult, has earned himself a regular place in the Knights line-up in the last couple of seasons with his off spin bowling. Bharat Popli who owns the Bay of Plenty record of centuries, with six three figures scores, is a quality middle order batsmen with quick bowler Tony Goodin always in contention to take wickets.
