HAMILTON AND TAURANGA BOYS HEAD FOR SUPER EIGHT CRICKET SHOWDOWN ON DAY THREE

Hamilton Boys High School and Tauranga Boys College, are headed for a major showdown on day three of the Super Eight Cricket tournament being played in Tauranga this week.

After both side cruised to easy Pool A wins on day two, the Wednesday encounter between the two ND sides has become a winner take all contest, with the victor booking a berth in the Grand Final on the last day of the tournament.

Gisborne Boys High folded under the pressure of the Tauranga Boys College sustained bowing attack and were removed for just 79. Jarrod Davenport top scored with 31 for the Poverty Bay School, with Gurwinder Singh grabbing a four wicket bag for the Tauranga team. Sean Wakelin led the home side to a seven wicket win with a crisp 39 runs.

Napier Boys High won the toss and asked Hamilton Boys High to bowl first. With none of the Napier batsmen reaching the twenties, the Hawkes Bay side were bowled out for 114. Brayden Gaylor was the best of the Hamilton bowlers taking three wickets for just 10 runs. Hamilton also cruised to victory, with an 83 run partnership between Jamie Moore and Stephen Sistern-Tate taking then home to an eight wicket win.

In Pool B action, Palmerston North Boys High School moved to the top of the standings with a hard fought win over New Plymouth Boys. The Taranaki side batted first and was bowled out for 173 with Palmerston North getting home with three wickets to spare.

Hastings Boys made up for their first day loss when they reached 249/8 against the Tauranga Boys second eleven. A opening partnership of 82 by Joshua Hannan and Samuel Field set up the Hawkes Bay side’s big total. The Tauranga reply came to a end at 170 all out. Tauranga Boys openers Denyn Clarke and James Hanson put on a 75 run opening partnership.
