NORTHERN DISTRICT CRICKET ROADSHOW COMES TO THE BAY OF PLENTY NEXT WEDNESDAY

Posted: Friday, 31 July 2015

The annual Northern Districts Cricket Roadshow will hit Tauranga next Wednesday (5 July 2015) when the ND Cricket Coaching team comes to the Western Bay of Plenty, to deliver an Art of Coaching evening at the Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui.

The evening is open to all Bay of Plenty cricket coaches, with the assembled panel bringing a multitude of cricket experience to Bay of Plenty Cricket headquarters.

Leading the ND Roadshow, is current Northern Knights Head Coach James Pamment, who coached the ND side to victory in the NZ Cricket T20 championship in the 2013/14 season. The National T20 competition victory, saw the Northern Knights compete in the Champions League competition in India during September and October 2014.

James is well known to Bay of Plenty Cricket followers as a player and coach. During the late 1990’s, the ND mentor was known as a hard hitting batsman before coaching the Bay of Plenty Senior Men’s team a decade later. Bay of Plenty won the Fergus Hickey Rosebowl, which is the symbol of ND minor association superiority, on three occasions when coached by James.

There are few better known names in New Zealand Cricket than Lance Cairns. The Black Cap master blaster was also strike bowler who achieved outstanding success in his long tenure in the New Zealand uniform. Lance is a long time member of the ND Coaching staff. During the mid 1980’s, Lance lived in the Bay of Plenty and played 14 games in the Bay uniform, when not on New Zealand or ND duty.

Long-time Northern Districts Head of Cricket Pat Malcolm and spin-bowling Coach Cliff Dickeson, have ties with Northern Districts Cricket date that back to their playing days. Both have a wealth of knowledge of the game and are well versed in the tactics and strategies of winning cricket. Peter Zanzoterra heads the ND Junior High Performance unit and is a key person in delivering the ND Cricket pathway.

The ND Roadshow will have a busy time in the Western Bay of Plenty, with the ND team running a training session earlier in the day, for the Bay of Plenty members of the ND Junior High Performance squads.

In other cricket news, recent Bay of Plenty Women’s Cricket captain Anna Peterson has earned a New Zealand Cricket Women’s contract. It is just the second season that 10 New Zealand Women’s players have been retained on annual contracts. White Ferns Head Coach Haidee Tiffen said the list reflected who would likely form the core of the White Ferns team over the next 12 months.

Anna earned selection for the Bay of Plenty Women’s team and the Northern Spirit, while attending Aquinas College. From her initial selection, Anna became an automatic first pick for the ND Women’s flagship side, until her departure last season to play for the Auckland Hearts.

On the 1st March 2012, she became the first Bay of Plenty player to be selected for the White Ferns, when she took to the field in an ODI against the touring England Women’s team.  Last season, the former Bay of Plenty all-rounder cemented a place in the New Zealand Women’s side.

Anna’s best performance in the New Zealand uniform, came at the Bay Oval at Mount Maunganui, against England this year. On the last ball of her first over, Anna grabbed the valuable wicket of Sarah Taylor. Anna took another wicket in her second over and finished the match as the Kiwi side’s best bowler, after taking four wickets at a cost of just 25 runs.
