Senior Secondary Boys Gisborne - Day 4

Posted: Monday, 22 December 2014

Bay of Plenty Lakeland spent little time at the crease, in their championship semi-final against Counties Manukau on day four of the ND Senior Secondary Cricket tournament, being played in Gisborne.

After winning the toss, the Lakeland team elected to bat and were quickly in trouble losing three wickets with the score stuck on 9. At 27/7, the writing was on the wall, however some defiance from Declan Keaney and Liam Kelly who both posted 16 runs before they were dismissed, gave the Lakeland some respectability before they were bowled out for just 67.

Counties cruised home with eight wickets to spare, to go on to face Hamilton in the championship decider on day five. BOP Lakeland will meet Waikato Valley in the playoff to decide third place in the annual tournament.

Bay of Plenty Coastland had an outstanding day at the batting crease, against long time rivals Northland in their two-day match. Batting first, the Bay side were in early strife losing their first for wickets for just 18 runs.

Enter Christian MacDonald and Harrison Perry, who knuckled down to put on a 135 run partnership. Perry was the first to go with 50 runs to his name with MacDonald carrying on to top score for his side with 86. Another big partnership of 113, from Louis Morris (76no) and Brody Gilroy (42) resulted in the Coastland declaring at 301/8. Northland were twenty without loss at stumps on day one.
