TWO BAY TEAMS HAVE FRIENDLY MATCHES ON SUNDAY

Posted: Friday, 21 November 2014

The Bay of Plenty Senior Mens team, is warming up for the annual ND one-day tournament to be played in Taupo 7/9 December 2014, with a fifty over “friendly” encounter with Hawkes Bay on Sunday (23 November 2014)

This will be the Bay side’s first one-day game of the season, after a couple of two-day matches in recent weeks. The Bay of Plenty team continued their quest for the ND 2015 Hawke Cup Direct Challenge, with a loss to Northland and then first innings points against Counties Manukau, in emphatic style last weekend.

There are just two changes in the team that outplayed Counties Manukau. Hard hitting batsman Cam Neal comes into the side for the first time this season and Central medium pace bowler Andrew Gibbs returns after not being available last weekend.

The Bay of Plenty selectors, have continued their policy of promoting promising youngsters into the ranks of the Bay of Plenty Development team. The Bay second eleven will face the ND Under 19 representatives in a non-championship encounter on Sunday. Four players who were playing Bay of Plenty age group cricket last season, will make their senior representative debuts at the Bay Oval on Sunday.

Central leg spinner Shannon McSkimming, who is also an accomplished boxer, will join the Bay Development team along with Alastair Blackett who also plays for the Rotorua premier club side, while still attending secondary school.

Another promising youngster to make his Development debut, while still at secondary school, is Otumoetai College student Christian MacDonald. The fourth Bay Development new recruit, is BOP Indians batsman Johann Irani, who was member of the BOP Coastland team that won back to back ND senior secondary titles last season.
