We need your help finding New Zealand’s Favourite Local Cricket Umpire

It’s that time of year again – Specsavers is searching for New Zealand’s Favourite Local Cricket Umpire and needs the help of your club.

Who are the amateur cricket umpires in your community that deserve to be recognised and rewarded for their hard work, time and commitment to our favourite summertime sport?

Nominate them in the competition and not only will they win a stack of incredible prizes, but your club could win $2,000 cash too!

PRIZES:
The winning umpire will receive:
• Golf with a friend with the BLACKCAPS at their annual NZ Cricket Golf day
• A one-on-one training session with one of New Zealand’s leading cricket umpires, e.g. Billy Bowden
• Tickets, travel and accommodation for two, to the BLACKCAPS vs Sri Lanka ANZ international ODI at Westpac Stadium, Thursday 29 January 2015
• Two pairs of Specsavers glasses
Plus six national finalists will each receive $500 cash, Specsavers glasses and BLACKCAPS memorabilia

The person who nominates the winning umpire will win:
• Signed BLACKCAPS memorabilia
• Tickets, travel and accommodation for two, to the BLACKCAPS vs Sri Lanka ANZ international ODI at Westpac Stadium, Thursday 29 January 2015
• A pair of glasses from Specsavers

How can your club get behind campaign?
• Nominate umpires from your club and in your community
• Share the competition flyer (attached) with your club members – on the noticeboard, and via email if you can (the same flyer that was in your open-day school packs)
• Share the news about the search on your website and Facebook page (if you have one) - example posts are below
• Take photos or submit videos showing why your umpire is deserving of this prize – share it on your website/Facebook page at tag Specsavers New Zealand
• Hold an appreciation night for your club’s umpires and present them with fun awards for their service

Feel free to think of other creative ways that you can get your club on board with this competition and email me with suggestions or photos of how you are promoting this competition to your members.

What’s in it for you?
If your club gets behind the competition and is considered the most engaged (regardless of size, members etc), you’ll win $2,000 cash to put towards whatever you like – new equipment, training, marketing, a club party – you name it!

This is the fourth year Specsavers is the proud supporter of domestic cricket umpires, and looking to activate at the Georgie Pie Super Smash Twenty-Twenty matches throughout the country over the next two months.

Why is Specsavers involved with cricket?

The association with domestic cricket umpires provides Specsavers with  broad appeal and strong ‘grass roots’ characteristics which complement the personality of the Specsavers brand – professional, reliable and thorough.

What is the duration of the competition?
The competition is now open with entries closing on 05 January 2015.

How does the competition work?
Mango will promote the competition through editorial cricket pack giveaways in local newspapers and also through a media release that will be distributed to media nationwide.

The public can nominate their local umpire via the Specavers New Zealand website competition page; the page will include an electronic entry form and full terms and conditions.

What are the criteria for entry?
Specsavers and New Zealand Cricket are searching for local club cricket umpires who demonstrate a special dedication to the growth and participation of cricket in their community.

This could take the form of:
- An individual who has been a club cricket umpire for a long period of time
- A club cricket umpire who is passionate about cricket and has achieved something amazing during his/her time as an umpire
- An inspiring and encouraging club cricket umpire whose club believes is deserving of a national award
- A club cricket umpire who, despite certain circumstances, has remained involved and passionate about cricket
- A club cricket umpire who has assisted the role of cricket in the community by getting new players involved, or acting as a mentor
Nominees/ Entrants must have:
- Umpired local club cricket games for either children or adults

How is the winner selected and when will they be chosen?
Mango will manage all entries. There will be six regional finalists selected on the w/c 05 January 2014. The six regional finalists will receive $500 cash, BLACKCAPS memorabilia and 2x pairs of Specsavers glasses. Mango will profile each regional finalist in their local community media.

Of the six regional finalists one overall winner will be selected w/c 19 January 2015.  The winner will be profiled in the media.
